If there was one show that had everyone hooked, making it impossible to tear away from the screen just because they had to know what happened next, it was Dexter. Netflix recently made a big announcement through their official X account, "Surprise motherf---. Dexter Seasons 1-8 are coming to Netflix in the US on June 19!". Dexter is a top-rated crime drama featuring Michael C. Hall, about a blood spatter analyst with a dark side.
Netflix had previously featured the series on its UK platform until January 2018. This recent announcement of Dexter's return to Netflix came at a time when the streaming giant is doubling down on licensing. There are a couple of reasons for this pivot. Firstly, there is a push for more viewing hours on Netflix, particularly with the introduction of their ad-supported tier. Secondly, Netflix is facing fierce competition from other platforms. With such competition, Dexter is not the only show making a comeback to the platform.
Netflix is also introducing a timeless sitcom, widely regarded as one of Friends' biggest rivals.

After being off Netflix for seven years, the US version of the streaming service will soon offer all 208 episodes of the iconic sitcom How I Met Your Mother. While Netflix had the show for much of the 2010s, all nine seasons were eventually removed in November 2017. Nevertheless, the addition of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix will not change its availability on Hulu, where it is already fully accessible.
The news broke a few months ago when Disney announced that they would be licensing more than a dozen shows from their different branches to Netflix over the next couple of years. These series will only be on Netflix for 18 months before it leaves the platform again. However, that may not be the case with Dexter, which is expected to find a home on Netflix on June 19.
