The Royal family had always been in the media, but not for the same reasons it is now. While its policies and contribution to the government and people were pivotal matters in the subject of politics, they remained as far away from gossip as they possibly could. Their private lives only trickled into the media after now King Charles admitted on live television that he had committed infidelity. And the years that came further developed this plot.

However, no era of gossip comes close to that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Not only did they make history when they stepped down as senior Royal officials but also when they let bare the discriminations they claimed to have faced in the royal family. After witnessing Netflix’s successful venture with the Harry & Meghan docuseries and The Crown, Channel 4 has decided to also put their foot in royal waters. However, they are planning to go deeper inside.

Channel 4 follows Netflix’s footsteps toward Royalty

Seeing potential after the Oprah interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which garnered more than a million viewers, Netflix grabbed the opportunity by its reigns. The reigns are a multi-million dollar deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which will consist of the two recountings of their experience with the Royal family. This is not the first time that the OTT Mughal has put its foot into the Royal waters.

Its highly popular fictional series, The Crown, has not only won awards for excellence but also hearts for precision. Channel 4, with its The Royals: A History of Scandals, plans to do the same by having a professional historian by the name of Suzannah Lipscomb on board.

Instead of fictional storytelling, it will follow the route of interviewing royal experts. The best part, however, is that the show will not be focused on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

It will be a deep probe into the scandals surrounding the royal family that has taken place through the centuries of its rule. This will allow the general audience that has had enough of the Harry & Meghan drama a fresher perspective. Furthermore, the creators behind the show consist of geniuses such as Clare Hollywood, Steve Regan, and Mark Ball. According to Kate Thomas, Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, The Royals: A History of Scandals will be a “real treat for history fans.
