Strike-Hit Netflix Pours $20 Million to Seal Rights for Richard Linklater’s Action Comedy
Netflix is leaving no stone unturned to be the top streamer. As it constantly faces stiff competition from Apple, HBO, and others, it always has a cushion of a plethora of original shows to help keep it on top. However, the streaming behemoth has found itself in murky waters lately. Many of its original productions slated to release are on an indefinite hold. The reason? SAG-AFTRA and WGA twin strikes.
Nevertheless, Netflix is not looking to wane itself down. To help minimize the dearth of new originals, it is currently adding old hits to its catalog as well as burying off entirely new ones. And thus, it shelled out a huge sum to pocket an action flick to hit its screens.

Boyhood director, Richard Linklater, recently released his new movie, Hit Man at the Venice Film Festival. However, instead of going the traditional studio to theatrical way, Linklater sold the Glenn Powell starrer to Netflix for $20 million. The movie will release as a Netflix production on streaming as well as a limited theatrical preview as well. The 2023 action-comedy follows Powell’s character as he takes on distinct personas.
In what also appears to be a thrilling ride, the movie is centered on a woman’s escape from an abusive husband. While Powell’s character tries to make it possible, he ends up falling for her. Now, he must try to hide the woman’s identity from her estranged husband, who is trying to come after her. What also raises the thrill quotient is that this movie is based on a true story. As such, Hit Man shall conclude to be a thrilling, action, love-story epic from Richard Linklater.
While it keeps adding originals to its catalog, the fate of many beloved Netflix series hangs in the balance.
