After a rather prolonged hiatus from the Stranger Things universe, things are finally returning to their usual strange. But the news of the show’s return comes to us as a dagger draped with honey. Sure, we are getting two more seasons of our favorite mystery drama, but these two seasons will also be the last. Hence, fans are rather confused about how to react to this. But, what if the Stranger Things universe expands with a spinoff? It is definitely a possibility, so we ought to talk about it.

Well, fans are lucky, as we have previously seen officials from Netflix talking about the possibility of Stanger Things becoming a franchise. Of course, they want to capitalize on the fame and glory this series has brought, and it is indeed a beautiful one. Now we also have the creators Matt and Ross Duffer talking about such projects. Time to scream with joy? Yes, indeed.

The creators of the show are just as emotionally connected and in love with it as we are. They probably adore it more than us. Hence, it comes as no surprise that they want to tell more stories from the universe. In the open letter they wrote for the fans, they did hint at a possibility of more tales from it. Here is what it read:

There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”

Sure, those are not the most concrete words that we could lay the foundation of our hopes upon. But, even if we get a shimmering light that hints at the existence of a Stranger Things spinoff, we follow that light like a moth.

The Shawn Levy comment from last year about the Stranger Things franchise

However, executive producer Shawn Levy had a thing or two to say about Stranger Things spinoffs. Here is what he said about it in an interview with Collider:

I’d say what I have made clear is this is obviously a tent pole, arguably the tent pole franchise in the history of Netflix. Obviously certain other shows played key roles in their evolution, but Stranger Things with 196 million viewers over the time that we’ve been on the air, that’s a lot of households. And it’s unique in that Netflix service. What’s been made clear is there is an interest and a real voracious appetite for any offshoot, any other iteration format or extension of the franchise, the characters, the mythology. And certainly, those conversations are hardly evolved, but they’re also not non-existent.
