Stranger Things struck gold by diving into the past as its rich in 80s references storyline bridged generational gaps. The plot crafted by the Duffer Brothers set the bar high as a Netflix original and to date remains one of the OTT mogul’s best performers. As the show meets its bitter-sweet end with Stranger Things Season 5, the expectations are understandably touching shoulders with Burj Khalifa. However, the Duffers are not choosing a fool-proof plan to make the final blow a success.

The series has always been very sensitive about its spoilers. However, the Stranger Writers were nice enough to let fans in on the finale being connected to the “consistently underrated” Season 2 of the show. And we are no Eleven, but the spidey senses are definitely tingling.

How Stranger Things Season 5 being connected to Season 2 will prove problematic?

In a stellar Season 4, the series takes viewers deeper into Eleven’s time at the Hawkins lab. It was also the season that featured the story’s most deadly villain yet in the form of Vecna. However, the reason Stranger Things Season 4 stands strong despite what happened to Eddie is because of how masterfully the Duffers have tied Vecna to Eleven’s origin. Everything from how he honed his skills and what drives his vengeance. Now, if the creators fetch out Kali from Season 2, it is doubtful that will be the case. But with a hint as clear as “rewatch Season 2“, Kali is the most probable link.

The Lost Sister, as she came to be known, also found herself at the mercy of ‘Papa’. She was among the kids who practiced crushing cans and opening portals alongside Eleven. However, she did not meet the warmth of the Hawkins gang and hence much like Vecna, feeds off her anger in order to become more powerful.

There is a reason why Season 2 is underrated. It proved to be one of the most low-performing seasons for the series that touches the sky with its viewership. Given how the cast has remained the same, this low performance has a lot to do with the Lost Sister sub-story.

Is Kali returning for Season 5?

The show seems to be booking talented actors left and right as it heads toward the finale. However, news of Linnea Berthelsen’s comeback is either being kept under wraps or is not happening. With how the writers have been talking about tying previously left loose ends, the former seems to be the case. In all its very happening seasons, the one storyline that does not seem to make sense is that of the Lost Sister in Season 2.

It was clear from Kali’s introduction that there were more kids at the Hawkins lab, but the question remains: how did she escape the massacre? And if she was powerful enough to do so, whose side will she stand on in Stranger Things Season 5? If the Duffer Brothers do not play well with all these elements then it would mean a lackluster see-off for a series as exceptional as Stranger Things.
