‘Stranger Things’ Fans Revisit Season 1 for Forgotten Easter 'Egg,' Amidst Wait for an Answer in Finale

There are plenty of Easter eggs in Stranger Things that fans are still trying to crack. Every now and then, someone from the fandom shares a wild idea and the entire clan floods the web with their theories. Ahead of the final season, fans have yet again uncovered an Easter egg from season 1 that somehow slipped past most viewers. Interestingly, this particular Easter egg is a literal egg that was seen in the debut season.

The egg seen in the Upside Down during the first season was first spotted when Eleven was in the Hawkins lab, inside a sensory deprivation tank. This was the scene where she first made contact with the Demogorgon. Before the Demogorgon even realized Eleven was there, it could be seen eating an egg. This same egg popped up again when Joyce and Hopper ventured into the Upside Down to rescue Will and Barbara near Castle Byers. In that scene, the egg was seen hollowed out, and whatever was inside presumably hatched and either left—or was eaten.

One popular theory suggests that the egg could actually be the egg of a Demogorgon. Even though, according to the life cycle, Demogorgons do not hatch from eggs, this theory speculated that Demogorgons can reproduce in two ways, se------ and ase------. So, when they reproduce se------, they lay eggs. Another theory proposed that these eggs might act as cocoons where Demodogs evolve into full-grown Demogorgons. It could also be related to the Demobats, and given the egg's size, may serve as a home to multiple of them.

Fans unravel the mystery of the yellow eggs in Stranger Things

Stranger Things fans are experts at cooking up out-there takes and theories. Even for the egg, fans have come up with some interesting explanations. While a fan thought “it’s a solid Alien homage”, someone else felt “it may be part of the vine organism”. One fan even suggested it could be a “Thessalhydra egg.” Another wacky theory claimed that it is Vecna’s egg, though that seems like the least likely possibility so far.

Other fans pointed out that the yellow eggs “must belong to some other Dimension X creature" that we may—or may not—meet in the future. Especially, considering the egg first appeared in season one and has not been seen since, it is likely that its true purpose—and what hatched out of it—will remain one of Stranger Things’ mysteries.
