‘Stranger Things’ Fans Dig Up a Possible 3-Year-Old Hint, as Season 5 Set to Split in 2 Parts for Netflix
The year has finally come for Stranger Things to wrap up its story, but not before an epic finale. The show has officially wrapped its filming, and in just a few months, fans will hopefully get answers to all those wild theories and speculations they have been tossing around for years. However, they will not get it all at once. The final season is going to be released in volumes, just like the last one. And it looks like fans have already figured out how the show’s creators are planning to split the release.
Three years ago, a photo from the Stranger Things set showed a grid with columns for all eight episodes of the upcoming season. But what really made everyone do a double-take was the division between episodes four and five. While the other episode breaks had just one line, this one had two. That little detail got fans thinking that there might be a gap after episode four of the final season. If that is the case, it means the first volume will have the first four episodes, and the second volume will feature the last four.

When Stranger Things season 4 was split into two parts, Netflix explained that it was because the season was just too long to fit in one go. But, it also makes a lot of sense from a business standpoint, since it keeps viewers subscribed longer on the streaming giant, especially when it is a show as popular as this one. Whatever the reason, that old grid is starting to make a lot more sense to fans after all this time.
Fans on X are now sharing their own interpretations of the grid. While some are on board with the 50-50 split, others are not so sure.
Fans are feeling conflicted about the Stranger Things grid hint
The viral grid is a little reminder that Stranger Things season 5 has been in the works for about three years now. Fans have been waiting a long time for the final season, and with the new rumored release date already causing even more frustration, this split might turn up those frustrations even more. Even so, fans on X are still kicking themselves that they did not notice the obvious clue in the grid earlier.
Back in March 2024, during an episode of The Jonathan Ross Show, Millie Bobby Brown said there were still about nine months left of filming and that she had already read the script for six episodes. Because of this, many fans still believe the eight-episode season will be split into 6+2, just like the table read went.

Another theory going around is that the double lines on the grid could hint at a split in the show’s timeline, as pointed out by X user @b1tchingreen. This means, on top of the time jump we are already expecting at the start of season 5, there could be even more time gaps sprinkled throughout the season, though probably shorter ones.
