When Stranger Things announced that Season 5 was going to be the closing chapter, owing to the series’ history of settling for nothing less but perfection, fans knew they were in for a ride. And in ways unprecedented, the wait for the last season has replicated the long line before a rollercoaster curtsy of the SAG AFTRA strike. However, the proven finesse of the existing cast and the addition of talented names, specifically Dan Trachtenberg, has ensured fans that the wait will be worthwhile.

The Netflix moneymaker has had a history of adding stars to the already acclaimed project by incorporating the genius of various directors. And even before the release of Season 5, Dan Trachtenberg already has fans excited. However, it is not just for Stranger Things.

While Stranger Things might be welcoming Dan Trachtenberg for the first time, the director is no stranger to big-league shows. Not long ago, Trachtenberg directed the Playtest episode of Black Mirror Season 3. However, neither Black Mirror nor Stranger Things will mark the first entry of the director’s attachment to a well-off franchise. But looks like great scripts and camera angles are not all that Trachtenberg has an eye for because he has promised “original projects” before fans could even complain.

In an interview with BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, the kingmaker said, “I’ve got several of those [original projects] that I’ve been working on forever.” That Trachtenberg is going to step out of the comfort of already successful franchises is a huge achievement not just for the director’s fans but for the entirety of science fiction.

It is a trope frequent among directors, especially those who manage to successfully nail it in the science fiction genre, to wax poetic about their masterpiece. In fact, the competition and scope to create an original franchise are more prevalent in the science fiction genre than any other. Why then, has one of its best, Dan Trachtenberg, not churned out originals? The director blames the picky nature of production houses.

Proven franchises easily get the green flag according to Trachtenberg’s revelation on the BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast. Apart from that, being a science fiction lover himself, the director has confessed to simply wanting to push boundaries with the material at hand. However, he is also more than willing to prove himself with a few trademark projects of his own. In any case, it is a win-win situation for fans.
