Every new occasion calls for a Netflix arrival, but even without one, the streaming giant arrives and delivers second to none. Although lately, the OTT platform witnessed some major contentions over its release strategy from industry bigwigs, Netflix has since got its mojo back with the ultimate holiday arrival, Carry-On. However, a member from the starship of the Christmas thriller, Sofia Carson, is fanning the flames of a sequel for another Netflix flick that has been a fan favorite since the day of its release.

Carson laid out what makes her so defensive, addressing the potential of a sequel.

In a recent interview for Just for Variety podcast, Sofia Carson said she received Carry-On’s script right after her major Netflix rom-com blockbuster Purple Hearts. Upon being asked whether there has been any consideration for a sequel to the 2022 flick and when viewers can expect it, Carson held the cards to her chest. However, she teased about “conversations” held around it, admitting she remains a bit “protective” about the story.

Carson has inexplicable love and admiration for her Purple Hearts character Cassie, and looking back, all she can speak of is the fulfillment it brought. “So I’m very protective of how and if the sequel happens,” the actor explained. However, highlighting the “extraordinary” number of times she has been approached with the question, she conveys her gratitude. This curiosity, for her, is the ultimate “gift” and the biggest stamp of approval that fans loved the movie.

Sofia Carson addresses the Christmas movie title for Netflix’s Carry-On

In her conversation with the outlet on the Just for Variety podcast, Sofia Carson talked about Carry-On and whether it deserves to be a Christmas movie title. Traditionally, Christmas flicks center around the holiday season and usually feature themes and settings associated with all things merry with heartwarming narrative tropes. But Carry-On, Carson believes, is “whatever you want it to be for yourself,” de-familiarizing Christmas tales with Netflix this season.

Recalling Danielle Deadwyler’s iconic designation for the movie, Carson re-adjusted it to “Christmasaction movie.” The actor confirmed she will go by Deadwyler’s script with Carry-On henceforth, before breaking the myth that Christmas movies can dwell in the likes of different genres that do not feel one and the same to the audience. While the festive season may rely on familiarity, Carson thinks Carry-On’s navigation of action and Christmas film as “two universal genres” brings much more than any single one could have carried out.
