The Witcher has been a whirlwind ride for fans who loved the saga since its release in 2019. From losing Henry Cavill as Geralt and Ciri battling with the world alone, the latest season left viewers with many questions. Despite the rollercoasters, fans cannot help but compare the show to other iconic adaptations, with Game of Thrones being a major contender. Fans have connected the two shows several times, considering their grim tone, characters, and mythical lands.

It is true that the two shows have many similarities, however, few would know there is a bigger connection between the two than extremely complex stories and a dark, brooding atmosphere. They share a common thread which is Azor Ahai and the child that White Flame wants to have with Ciri. Fans might be wondering how these two characters, one dead and one not born, tie two different fantasy worlds together. Well, do not worry, and scroll down to find the answer.

Though Geralt of Rivia has been leading The Witcher, Princess Cirilla has always been the center of the story. In season 3 fans saw Emhyr brought Fake Ciri to his kingdom and addressed her as the Queen of Cintra. Though the season did not reveal if the two will get married, according to the source material, the White Flame has a motive behind it. He wants to fulfill the prophecy of Ithlinne, who predicted that if Emhyr and Ciri had a child, their offspring would save the world from destruction, and rule it.

So he had been sending Nilfgaardian troops behind her to catch her and would do anything to complete that prediction. Likewise, in Game of Thrones novels, Azor Ahai was a legendary figure who lived for thousands of years. Also known as the Lord of Light, fought and defeated the White Walker invasion long before the times depicted in the show. After his death, a prophecy said he with be born again and vanquish darkness once more.

To put it simply, both the prophecies of these fantasy worlds promise a child that would change the world all for good.

Both have a special and similar purpose

In The Witcher, politics has played a significant role as several powerful figures wish to take over the continent. In season 3, fans saw how Emhyr destroyed the Brotherhood, pitting mages and elves against each other. This has been his chief motive so that he can make all the kingdoms bow down to him so his prophesied child could rule over them. The prophecy concerns a cataclysmic ice age that will annihilate the world, but the child with “elder blood” will be instrumental in its rebirth.

So when the White Flame gets to know that Ciri inherited elder blood from her mother Pavetta, he goes behind her. The same goes for George RR Martin’s story, which promised the rebirth of Azor Ahai amid the war-ridden world to bring peace. In A Storm of Swords, the red priestess Melisandre mentions, “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again”. Fortunately, this prophecy came true in Games of Thrones. when the kingdom of Targaryen started was burned to ashes.

Games of Thrones depicted “The Prince That Was Promised”

In the show, Melisandre always believed that Stannis Baratheon was Azor Ahai and, therefore, The Prince That Was Promised. However, when he died in season 6, she changed her tune and admitted to Davos that Jon Snow was the prophesied savior of their world. He was the offspring of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, which made him fit for this prediction. Not to forget, he had demonstrated a talent for fending off with White Walkers throughout the show.

As for The Witcher, fans do not know yet if Emyhr will be successful in his motives and find the real Ciri. But the path the young princess has taken would make things difficult for the continent in the future. She joined the Rats in season 3 and called herself Falka so this could make her lose faith and turn to darkness, ultimately dooming their world. If this happens, the prophecy will be futile in the show. However, these are just assumptions and viewers will know more when season 4 comes out.
