Jaime Anguita, Viviana’s husband, got a phone call regarding his missing wife, but he ignored it, assuming it was a prank. However, he informed the authority soon after he got the news from her daughter. After more than a month, 42 days to be exact, they found her dead in the attic of her Puerto Varas home.

Jose Perez Mancilla, who worked in Jaime’s company, confessed to killing Viviana in December 2015. He also confessed that the deceased’s husband, Jaime, hired him to kill his wife. As a result, Jaime and Mancilla were put in preventive detention.

This murder case was accounted by Rodrigo Fluxá’s true-crime book ‘Usted sabe quién: notas sobre el homicidio de Viviana Haeger,’. Later, this book also became the inspiration for the show’s narrative.

The plot is based on a true story and the directors wanted to explore the psychological traumas of the characters which are evidently exposed in the show. ‘There isn’t a great deal of narrative complexity here, but there is emotional depth, and an understanding of trauma’s ripple effects can unsettle those they touch in often small and unexpected ways,’ says another review of the crime thriller show.
