From the likes of Deadpool and Free Guy, Shawn Levy recently took an enormous shift in his direction with Netflix’s All the Light We Cannot See. The Stranger Things producer created a beautiful series showcasing the mysteries of World War 2 with a new actress, Aria Mia Loberti, alongside a brilliant star, Mark Ruffalo, and others. Based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the war series has a close resemblance to the current happenings of the real world.

During his talk with Yahoo Canada, the director acknowledged the timely and significant themes of humanity, empathy, and seeing people as individuals and how these themes felt resonant while filming in Budapest during the Ukraine conflict. Further, with the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, these themes still stand strong. While Levy finds the happenings of the Middle East “heartbreaking,” he shared how he is also “grateful” that the show released now.
The cast and crew of the Netflix Original were filming the series in Budapest during the crisis in Ukraine. Filming there brought out the overwhelming effects of the themes, as Levy admitted. And now, the current situation in the Middle East deepened the darkness in the world. Acknowledging that Levy revealed, it would have been easy to sink into sadness, hopelessness, and heartbreak. However, as the show represented and Shawn Levy also admitted, “We have to cling to humanism and hope.”

After the disappearance of her father, she faces the Gestapo, who violently tries to get information about a specific jewel from her.

Meanwhile, Werner Pfennig, who, against his will, was forced to work with the soldiers. Hunger, death of humanity, lust, destruction, greed, arrogance, and hopelessness were at their peak throughout the show. However, the professor’s words unexpectedly helped Pfennig and Marie-Laure save themselves and others. Although it was the light that both of them saw and felt individually, it got them collective peace. Indeed, the show has been getting well-deserved praise from netizens.
