The Spooky season has arrived. And there is no better way to embrace the chills than by sinking into some seriously bloody and disturbing gore movies and shows. Over the years, Netflix has built up a massive collection of gore- and many of them are not necessarily supernatural horror. This collection of Netflix content is not for those easily rattled by explicit content. But for the brave souls who can stomach the disgustingly freaky graphic visuals and thrive on twisted storylines, they are definitely a must-watch- especially for the Halloween season.

From those who live for spine-tingling gore to the ones who are more of a hide-your-eyes kind, here are seven shows/movies Netflix offers.

The Babysitter

The best thing about this teen black comedy slasher film, The Babysitter, is that it knows exactly what it is and does not pretend to be anything else. The Babysitter leans right into its goofy humor along with some wicked gore and characters that are a lot more fun than they should be. In fact, the whole production practically oozes Halloween spirit, even though it is set in a time that is hard to pin down.

With its blend of over-the-top violence and cheeky sexuality, this Netflix original somehow takes a PG plot and wraps it in an R-rated package. It is the kind of movie made for late-night laughs with friends or after a few drinks.

While The Babysitter is definitely not a masterpiece in any measure, it is good enough for some laughs and shocks on Halloween.

The Fall of the House of Usher

The Fall of the House of Usher was created by Mike Flanagan, who is also behind the hit horror show, The Haunting of Hill House, on the streaming giant. With everything from acid-burned bodies to medieval-style pendulum blades, The Fall of the House of Usher really leans into its gruesome side. But that does not mean the is all about the gore.

While the show does not shy away from showing each horrific death in detail, it is not overly gruesome either. The main focus is on the story rather than jump scares. Still, it comfortably sits in the horror genre by serving up plenty of gore without relying on supernatural elements

All of Us Are Dead

Netflix's zombie show, All of Us Are Dead, had quickly become one of the best modern zombie series since it dropped. It has all the classic zombie horror elements- blood, gore, and tons of scares- but it offers even more. The director, Lee Jae-kyu, once shared in a behind-the-scenes clip from Netflix that he is aware there is no shortage of zombie outbreak stories.

What makes this immensely satisfying, blood-soaked rollercoaster stand out, however, is that it follows a group of young characters stuck in high school, which is already a nightmare, even without a horde of zombies banging on the doors.

Gerald's Game

Easily one of the best movies on Netflix and a fantastic adaptation of Stephen King’s work, Gerald’s Game makes clever use of gore without going overboard. It tricks viewers into feeling safe from anything too horrific until the grotesque ending, which took a lot of people by surprise, in a good and bad way. The writing in this Mike Flanagan adaptation are so solid that it instantly gets under the skin.

Gerald’s Game takes all the best bits of horror and gives them a fun twist to create something fresh and scary. The story is pretty simple, but it keeps the suspense up. Plus, there are jump scares that really catch people off guard as well- making it the ultimate Halloween watch.

Squid Game

Squid Game is one of the most disturbing shows on Netflix. There is plenty of death, but it happens quickly- no drawn-out torture scenes like in Game of Thrones. The scariest thing about the show, however, comes from the uncertainty, as there is always a feeling of nerves about what is coming next. It spares no effort in becoming a gore fest either.

The visuals can be pretty intense, especially for those who get squeamish. The graphic scenes showing black market organ harvesting, and the 'Red Light, Green Light' death scenes are some of the most shocking ones, but they fit right into the story. And the best part is Squid Game knows how to deliver the gore while keeping the plot strong, not making those intense moments feel random for the series.

Wednesday

Starring Jenna Ortega as the cold, edgy, and ever-blinking-averse Wednesday Addams, this Netflix original is labeled as dark, gloomy, and cynical. But its clever wit and twisted humor keep everyone entertained and on their toes. It has got all the ups and downs of a coming-of-age story, mixed with that quirky, morbid charm that screams Tim Burton. And it does not hold back on the gore and scares either.

With a mysterious monster lurking around, there are plenty of jump scares keep viewers on edge. The show does not shy away from the bloody and graphic visuals either, with several murders and scenes featuring severed heads, legs, and arms. And who can forget the iconic blood rain shower scene?

Stranger Things

One of Netflix’s pride projects, Stranger Things, used to charm viewers by dancing on the edge of the supernatural without getting too much into shocks and gore. But that has changed over the years. Over the years, this sci-fi horror series has begun leaning heavily into the blood and guts. In season 4, particularly, the creators really cranked up the gore.

One of the most gruesome trends from the last season involved eyeballs- or rather, the lack of them- and those creepy bone-cracking sound effects. There are plenty of bloody scenes, violence, and the occasional dead body thrown in for good measure. And it looks like the upcoming fifth season, which is still in the works, might take the gore factor even higher.
