“School is not…” – Remember When Will Smith’s Kids Jaden and Willow Challenged the Education System?
Will Smith and his family have made headlines in the news, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. Netizens who have followed his children in the past years might be aware of their eccentric public statements. Both Jaden and Willow Smith have followed their superstar father’s footsteps, pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. Despite being talented just like him, they have said some things in the interviews that most couldn’t make heads or tails about. Do you remember when they talked about the uselessness of schools in the world?
Back in 2014, Jaden Smith and Willow Smith sat down for their first-ever joint interview to answer some intriguing questions about their work at the time. During the conversation, siblings were asked, “So is the hardest education the unlearning of things?” In her response, the young singer agreed with the host and stated that it always doesn’t have to be like this.

“Here’s the deal: School is not authentic because it ends. It’s not true, it’s not real. Our learning will never end,” stated Jaden Smith during his and Willow’s interview with the New York Times. He continued that schools actually restrain the creativity of people and they don’t teach anything good. His sister also shared her one-year experience of school and how she got to know that schools are depressing places.
It appears that they are not the biggest fans of traditional ways of teaching and believes in forging their path to success in a different way. However, at that time, these statements set the fire on the internet, making these two a laughing stock for people. Fans couldn’t understand how school education can diminish one’s intelligence. But this certainly isn’t the first they have said some peculiar things.
Jaden Smith once explained patterns to Will Smith
During the promotional season of After Earth in 2013, the father-son duo gave an interview that revolved around patterns. During the interview, the Oscar winner revealed how he always has been a physicist at heart and tries to find equations in everything he does. While his son gave a counterpoint saying that our mathematics isn’t fully evolved to find theories of everything.

“I think there’s, like, a whole new mathematics that we’d have to learn to get that equation… It’s beyond mathematical,” explained the 24-year-old. According to him, there are things beyond common maths and how patterns are created through generations of mankind.
Needless to say, both the young Smiths certainly hold opinions that differ from the masses, but something they likely have in common with most people is their closeness to their father, made evident in their stances in the aftermath of Oscar slapgate. In fact. The relationship that Will Smith shares with his youngest once inspired actor Jackie Chan to be a better father.
