Sadie Sink felt connected to the teenage emotions of her character in Dear Zoe

Despite the film releasing in 2022, the movie started filming in 2019, making Sadie Sink a teenager when she took on the role. The movie experienced pandemic woes before it finally got a release window this year. During the premiere of the movie August Wilson African American Cultural Center, she revealed her reasons for playing Tess. Sadie was exactly the right age as her character when she was approached for the role. Moreover, the actress herself has a younger sister which allowed her to draw from her real-life step into the character of Tess.

“I mean I was 16, 17 when I first filmed this, so I think I was right in that age range where I really connected with the character – just with teenage emotions and everything,” she explained

Dear Zoe is about Tess who unexpectedly loses her younger sister and is overcome with grief. She finds a way to cope when she relocates to her biological dad’s place.

Her co-stars Kweku Collins, Sophie Guest, Emmy James, and Tanyell Waivers also attended the premiere with her. The Whale actress looked fresh-faced at the premiere in a simple blouse and black striped pants. She let her hair down and kept her makeup minimal.
