The fifth-tier team, Wrexham AFC, is quickly making progress. The team was languishing before Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney decided to invest in the team on a whim in 2020. Since then, the two have actively worked to help the team win promotions and get promoted to a higher tier. Their journey was well documented in the FX documentary Welcome to Wrexham.

While the two Hollywood stars did do a lot to help get the team exposure, one cannot deny the efforts of the players on the field. They have showcased great work on the field in the ongoing FA Cup. While the chance to win the trophy isn’t over yet, they have announced their entry in TST.

Once the FA club concludes, the Wales team will participate in the 1 million soccer tournament. The men in orange will face off against 32 other teams to win the million-dollar prize money. It will commence from June 1-4 in Cary, N.C. This match will also take them to America for the first time after the club was established in 1864, and Ryan Reynolds tweeted about the same.

According to Market Watch, Wrexham will face some serious competition from Hashtag United, Club Necaxa, US Women, and Team Dempsey. Since Clint Dempsey is leading Team Dempsey, chances are Wrexham will also have its icons taking the lead.

Wrexham is now considered one of the strong contenders in the competition after its display in the match against Sheffield United. Shaun Harvey, the Wrexham board advisor, stated that if the team does win the tournament, then half of the money will get utilized for community work. As a representer of the people of Wales, the club feels obligated to contribute to its community.
