Prince Harry and Meghan Markle created a storm in the United Kingdom with their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021. The Sussexes made a handful of sensational revelations, including Markle facing mental issues and thinking of suicide while pregnant with Archie. 

The Duke and Duchess also revealed how they felt insecure and unprotected inside the Palace. They further labeled racism as one of the reasons behind leaving the royal family and setting up a private life in the United Kingdom. The accusations by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hampered the image of the monarchy. A lot of questions were raised over the integrity and morals of the royal members. Despite facing backlash, Queen Elizabeth II had a surprising reaction to the bombshell interaction.

Queen Elizabeth II wanted Prince Harry to find his feet in California

After watching the Oprah Winfrey interview, the late Queen was extremely concerned about her grandson. She did not give any high-voltage reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s revelations. “Queen was always more concerned for Harry’s well-being than about ‘this television nonsense’, meaning both the Oprah Winfrey interview, which caused so much controversy, and the lucrative deal the Sussexes made with Netflix,” Gyles Brandreth has said in his upcoming book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait as per Pinkvilla.

Further, the writer claimed that the Queen wanted nothing more than Prince Harry’s happiness in the United States. It is a well-known fact that the Duke was not happy in the Palace even before his marriage to Meghan Markle. He felt suffocated and had trouble making public appearances. The late monarch and the other members of the royal family were also aware of the Sussex royal seeking medical help for the betterment of his mental health.

Thus, when Prince Harry decided to move to California with his wife and Archie, Queen wanted him to be happy. She wished that the younger prince could find his feet in the States and do useful things.
