Royal Author Reveals How Queen Elizabeth II Was Ready to Break Royal Protocol for Meghan Markle
Queen Elizabeth II loved Prince Harry dearly and thus her affection was extended to his wife, Meghan Markle, as well. Since the very beginning, the late monarch had a soft spot for the Sussex royal and thus, she had let go of a handful of her rules for him and Markle during their wedding. The Sussexes always had good things to say about the Queen. They even looked tormented and tearful at the late monarch’s funeral in September.
Meanwhile, it might surprise you that for the Duchess, the Queen was ready to exploit a major royal protocol. The royals are not allowed to take up acting as their profession. They are required to work as the representatives of the crown by going on tours and engagements. However, in her first meeting with Meghan Markle, Her Majesty suggested something very sweet to Markle.

Queen wanted to make Meghan Markle feel welcomed into the royal family
It is a well-known fact that Meghan Markle left her acting career, following her marriage to Prince Harry. The former American actress was playing the breakthrough role of her career, Rachel Zane, in Suits when she met the younger prince. However, before her grand wedding, she wrapped up her role in the hit drama and has not looked back to her profession again till now. As per the royal author Gyles Brandreth, it was Markle’s decision as the Queen had permitted her to continue her profession.
“At their first meeting, the Queen said to Meghan: ‘You can carry on being an actress if you like – that’s your profession, after all.’ She would have been totally understanding if Meghan had decided to continue her career,” Brandreth said as mentioned by the Mail.

It was Meghan Markle, who was excited to work for the Commonwealth by being a senior royal. The Duchess promised the Queen to never disappoint her and the institution. Despite the assurance by Markle, the matriarch was aware that the former American actress would find it difficult to adjust to life at the Palace.
Thus, she offered her help in the form of Sophie Wessex. Prince Edward’s wife was supposed to mentor Markle and help her settle as a working royal. However, the Suits alum declined the offer as she was confident about herself.
