The royal family has had issues with the relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since the beginning. It is believed that Prince William had even warned his younger brother against his love affair with the former American actress. However, the public in the United Kingdom received the Duke and Duchess of Sussex extremely well. Their tour to New Zealand, Australia, Tonga, and Fiji in 2018, following their wedding, was a big success. 

It is believed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoyed the same attention and love as Princess Diana did in Australia during her historic visit with now King Charles III in 1983. The Sussex royal is always said to have the same charisma as his late mother. Meanwhile, Markle has excellent speaking skills and knows how to present herself in public. However, royal experts seem to think otherwise. 

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to see the efforts of Princess Diana

Royal author Tom Bower believes that the success of the Australia tour got into the head of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. He claimed that the Sussexes thought that they were blessed with Diana’s magic. However, they forgot that it took years for Princess Diana to build up her image and earn the love of the people surrounding her. 

“The Sussexes had convinced themselves that their Australian success blessed them with Diana’s magic. Neither she nor Harry could grasp that emulating Diana required time, to weave a narrative and create a brand from which influence would flow,” Bower said as quoted by Marca. 

The love received by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Australia had stunned the royal family as well. What was more surprising was that the Sussex royals gained far more headlines than Prince William and Kate Middleton in Australia. The couple paid a visit to a lot of scenic places in the country, including the Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach. They were also attendees at the Invictus Games. 

All the love and attention they received wasn’t enough to keep the couple within the folds of the royal family, as the couple made their infamous exit from the Institution in 2020, evoking much debate and chaos. At present, the Sussexes are based out of California, where they await the release of the Duke’s memoir and their Netflix docuseries.
