The Sympathizer is notably a live-action adaptation of a 2015 novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen. It will chronicle the life of a Vietnamese war survivor who goes on to become a cultural adviser for movies such as Apocalypse Now and Platoon. RDJ, who is also co-producing the series, will play several side roles throughout the series such as that of a Hollywood director and a CIA operative.
