Riding on Meghan Markle Starrer ‘Suits’ Massive Success, Netflix Forges to Churn Out More Licenced Content
When Suits came out in 2011, barely anybody knew who Meghan Markle was. Today over a decade later, Markle’s popularity has even surpassed the hugely hit series. While the show was already a phenomenon in itself, Netflix bringing it to its platform took Suits’ ubiquity one step further. Eventually, the series would even climb to the top of the OTT mogul’s charts owing to its compelling storytelling and star power. Particularly that of the protagonist who was now a royal having married Prince Harry!
Now, it seems like the streaming giant has picked up a hint or two from these developments.

While part of the reason why Suits gained such notoriety on Netflix was Meghan Markle, another was the fact that even before arriving on OTT the television series was already deemed a hit. Apparently, the top brass at the company has taken notice of shows like Suits and Friends having a huge impact on the way their viewers consume their content. So, now the OTT mogul may just follow this trend of bringing more “licensed content” onto the platform, reports The Wrap.
After all, perhaps no show has been re-watched as much as these classics from years ago! Meanwhile, the makers of Suits also reached a similar conclusion upon seeing the show’s Netflix success. It is now believed that the show might make a comeback with new partnerships and possibly a new cast too. Only time will tell if it can manage to replicate the success it saw with a cast that boasted of a now ex-royal.

While Suits does boast a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a YouGov poll indicated that it ranked a humble 351 in the hierarchy of popular TV shows. Yet, even up until last month, the show was placed as high as Netflix’s latest hit series, One Piece! According to a PR expert, this could be a strategic move to keep Markle at a pinnacle for an alleged comeback through Netflix.
In a way, it is peculiar that even four years after the show concluded, it continues climbing rating charts like that of Netflix. It is also believed that Netflix has quite possibly made a substantial investment in Markle. Hence, Suits’ newfound success might be a part of its effort to maintain her prominence, as both sides profit from the same thing. Meanwhile, the OTT mogul can bank on its licensed additions to come.
