Real-Life Vikings and How Different Are They From Vikings: Valhalla
Vikings: Valhalla has carried on the Vikings’ legacy by continuing the epic Norsemen adventure. The show picks up more than a century after the events of the Vikings, focusing on the end of the Viking era in the 11th century. The show produced by Michael Hirst, Morgan O’Sullivan, and Jeb Stuart, combined real-life history with a fictitious edge. While the creators attempted to portray the culture and history as accurately as possible, they’ve used their creative license in a few spots to make Vikings: Valhalla more engaging for the fans. We noticed a few significant character narratives that differed from true Viking history, and we’ve listed them below.
Leif Eriksson, the skilled sailor
This primary character is as historically accurate as feasible. Leif was the son of Erik the Red and the founder of Greenland’s first European settlement. He is a skilled sailor and a Viking newcomer. He is regarded to have been the first European to arrive in North America. His adventures have been recounted in two famous 13th-century sagas. The Saga of the Greenlanders and the Saga of Erik the Red.

Leif accidentally lands in North America in Erik the Red’s Saga after being blown away in that direction. Leif’s journey to Vinland, on the other hand, was not an accident in the Greenlanders’ Saga.
Both Saga’s Freydis different from Vikings: Valhalla Freydis Eriksdotter
Her story, like that of her brother, varies greatly between the Saga of Erik the Red and the Saga of Greenlanders. In the Erik the Red story, she is a powerful warrior who deflects an attack by Vinland’s native people. She comes out as significantly more deceptive in the Saga of the Greenlanders.
Both Saga’s Freydis is not the same kind as the Freydis we witness in the Vikings: Valhalla. She is a headstrong agnostic who is willing to protect the old ways. All three, though, have a similar fighting spirit.
King Canute did not invade England

In Vikings: Valhalla, King Canute is known as wise and ruthless Viking leader who keeps his friends close but his enemies closer. Canute invaded England in vengeance for the St Brice’s Day Massacre. In reality, it was his father who led the conquest, with Canute following close behind. The invasion was a success. Canute did, however, rule England in later years. Until his death in 1035, he was King of England, Denmark and Norway.
