The heir to the throne, Prince William and his Princess Kate Middleton, are hailed as the cutest couple in the royal family. They are college sweethearts as they fell in love with each other in 2001 while attending St Andrew’s university. It took the Prince of Wales ten years to pop the big question and the couple was finally married in April 2011 in a grand royal ceremony.

Meanwhile, it might surprise you that Prince Philip was extra cautious about who Prince William was marrying. The late royal approved of Kate Middleton only after observing that she was a level-headed girl. Though the Prince was relieved by his grandson’s choice, he did not wish for history to repeat itself. The Duke of Edinburgh believed that Princess Diana brought her downfall by allowing popularity to get to her head. He was extremely saddened by the scandal surrounding his daughter-in-law. Thus, he found it better to give a strict warning to Middleton before the royal wedding. 

Prince Philip advised Kate Middleton to learn from Queen Elizabeth II

In his new book, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, the royal author Gyles Brandreth has revealed the words of wisdom that Prince Philip passed on to the recent addition to the family. Before Prince William and Kate Middleton took the plunge, the late royal advised the now Princess of Wales to never look into the camera. He wanted Middleton to work towards completing her duties as a representative of the crown and never let all the adulation and love from the media and people get into her head.

Prince Philip believed that the Queen was a perfect example of how to survive as a royal for ages. Thus, he told Middleton to never look at the camera like the late monarch. All the attention should be on the task at hand and not on the surroundings. “The attention is for your role, what you do, what you’re supporting. It isn’t for you as an individual. You are not a celebrity. You are representing the royal family. That’s all,” Prince Philip said as per Mirror.
