‘Peaky Blinders’ Gives the Commonwealth Games 2022 a Fitting End in Their Home Town Birmingham
Small Heath, Birmingham: black smoke from the factories and white from the multiple cigarettes. We see a neighborhood trapped in never-changing grey weather with a storm looming that could erupt any second. “On a gathering storm comes a tall handsome man in his dusty black coat with a red right hand.” One of the best setups that a show has seen, Peaky Blinders has a special place for all the right reasons. The wrap of the final season left a gangster-shaped hole in our lives. But fret not, for there is a special treat for all the Peaky Blinders fans and it is not the upcoming movie.

A massive chimney looming over the stage paid tribute to Birmingham’s industrial past. The city was actually dubbed as the “engine room of England.” Remind you of something? Fitting perfectly with the theme, the closing night also featured a sneak-peak of the Peaky Blinders stage show. Under the guidance of artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer, the production performed a striking dance sequence from the play at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
Creator Steven Knight wrote a special theater piece based on the beloved British show titled Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby. The full-fledged theater production is set to premiere on the 27th of September at the monumental Birmingham Hippodrome. Tommy Shelby once said, “There’s no rest for me in this world. Perhaps in the next.” Here’s hoping that he gets his redemption through this new world of the promising theater piece.
