“Over Stephanie Hsu and….” – Cinephiles Call Out Oscars for Awarding Jamie Lee Curtis Over Her Co-Star in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’
Jamie Lee Curtis did it again: She won the award for the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Only this time, she won the most prestigious award there is, the Academy Award. This is a major achievement for the movie and the actress. However, cinephiles think otherwise.
Everything Everywhere All at Once had some of the most compelling performances, which explains why it bagged both the supporting role awards at Oscar 2023. But Curtis’ win left a bitter taste in fans’ mouths as they felt her co-star Stephanie Hsu and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s Angela Bassett deserved the award. Notably, the True Lies actress won an award at the SAG last month, while Hsu and Bassett were nominated for the same.
With Curtis bagging the Oscars (her first ever), as well, fans are unable to tolerate the supposed snub and started calling out the Academy. While many are happy that Everything Everywhere All at Once is sweeping awards, most believe Hsu deserved the Supporting Actress award more than Curtis. Meanwhile, some felt Bassett should have won.

Regardless of whom the fans were rooting for, it certainly wasn’t Jamie Lee Curtis, as their tweets would show.
Jamie Lee Curtis gets flack from fans following her Oscar win
Curtis is loved by many for her performances in films like Freaky Friday. Her work has been appreciated in the past, but it would seem her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once fell short in the eyes of cinephiles. While an Oscar win is a major milestone for an actor and their fans, Curtis’ win has attracted a lot of heat, instead.
Following the announcement of the Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actress, fans were quick to tweet their feelings about the turn of events. They openly expressed their disappointment about Curtis’ win over Stephanie Hsu. Meanwhile, Angela Bassett, who found a cheerleader in her partner tonight, also found fans taking her side for the supposed snub from the Academy.
Once they decided who deserved the award, fans were quick to call out the Academy and voters for choosing Curtis over Hsu after watching the 2022 film. They couldn’t understand how anyone could have thought the Halloween Ends actress did a better job than The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress in the film. Notably, Hsu’s Jobu Tupaki gained much love from the fans of Everything Everywhere All at Once, with many claiming her performance to have matched that of Michelle Yeoh, who won the Best Actress award in the Oscars this year.

While most were unhappy that Curtis won the Oscar, some were glad Everything Everywhere All At Once was sweeping awards left, right, and center (the film won 7 awards including Best Actress, Best Film, and Best Director). But they agree with cinephiles that Hsu deserved the award more.
