Get Out star, Daniel Kaluuya’s newly penned Dystopian drama is officially in production. Netflix announced, The Kitchen will star Top Boy actor Kane Robinson in the lead and will release globally in 2023. The movie will be a story of courage and resilience in the face of extreme poverty. 

What is The Kitchen’s plot? 

In 2044 futuristic London, the income gap between the poor and rich becomes unimaginably big. With all the social houses gone, the poor have no choice but to live on the outskirts of the city in makeshift houses. In spite of all the hardships they endure, the poor refuse to leave what they call their home. Amongst them is Izi, who wants to escape the place, and a 12-year-old orphaned kid Benji who is struggling to survive. 

Who stars in The Kitchen on Netflix? 

Netflix’s Top Boy actor, Kane Robinson will play the lead Izi. The actor appears as Sully, the dangerous drug lord in Drake produced Top Boy. The show recently concluded its fourth run on the streamer. Jedaiah Bannerman will star alongside Kane as Benji. 

Meet the team behind the flick

Oscar-winning actor, Daniel Kaluuya is co-writing and producing The Kitchen on Netflix for his 59% Production house. The actor has several acting credits to his name for starring roles in Get Out, Judas and The Black Messiah, and Black Panther. The man also worked on Black Mirror’s Fifteen Million Merits episode. Joe Murtagh (Calm With Horses) has co-written the screenplay with Daniel. The movie is a joint production between DMC Film’s Daniel Emmerson (Calm With Horses)  and Theo Barrowclough. Conor McCaughan and Michael Fassbender are serving as executive producers on the flick. 

The film marks the second collaboration between director Kibwe Tavares and Daniel. The two had previously worked together in Jonah for which Kibwe was nominated for the Sundance Short Film Grand Jury Prize. Although he didn’t win that award, he ended up winning the Sundance Special Jury Award for his work in the animated short feature film, Robots of Brixton. He is also credited with executive producing in BBC’s Noughts & Crosses.
