According to Variety, director Joe Berlinger revealed his motivations for creating the docuseries on JonBenét Ramsey's murder. Berlinger reflected on how he hopes to push Colorado authorities to take action and bring the killer to justice, nearly 30 years after the brutal murder. "The Ramsey family have been so brutalized," he said, adding further inputs about how they are being perceived based on the whims of the authorities.

Berlinger's docuseries, which is set to premiere tomorrow, sheds light on the case, particularly the Boulder Police's initial suspicion of John Ramsey. Despite the lack of evidence, the police fixated on this theory, which Berlinger argued, is a crucial aspect of the case that has been overlooked. The idea is to show how certain the Boulder Police were, "who, from day one, “had a feeling” that John Ramsey was the killer," reiterated Berlinger. His series aims to re-examine the investigation and its flaws.

Berlinger's terms were non-negotiable. Despite conditions of no monetary or editorial credits, Ramsey agreed to participate in the project. "This is not me picking up his advocacy," he said. Berlinger's approach ensured that the docuseries would be made without any perceived bias or influence from the Ramsey family. Following various crime documentaries and true stories-turned-series, like Inventing Anna, this promises to cater to crime enthusiasts and thriller audiences.
