However, with such success comes a plethora of hard work, and perseverance on the part of its creator, even causing major health problems to themselves. The Manga artist behind the One Piece series recently talked about his health issues due to prolonged work hours.
Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind the fan-favorite series, One Piece recently opened up about his disturbed sleep cycle and unbearable body pain because of prolonged hours of sitting in one position on his desk to produce long-running series. A recent Facebook update on his long-running problem suggests that the Japanese creator gets only 3 hours of sleep (from 9 am to noon) every day while his assistants’ bedtime marks from 5 am to noon.

Furthermore, Oda often skips meals, prioritizing his work. Sitting on a chair for such a long period and illustrating has further made him suffer from moderate diabetes and gout. Notably, as soon as fans got to know of his situation, they were quick to share their concern and empathy for the manga creator.

Fans sympathize with the One Piece creator and suggest that he take rest
Nearly 2.3K people have notably commented on the Facebook post not only asking “Oda sensei” to take rest but also identifying with his problem. While some suggested taking rest for a week as the next installment can wait a bit more, others were concerned about his schedule’s long-term impact. Some also identified with Eiichiro Oda’s problem stating that they are also a creative artist and that people should not take art for granted. It takes one’s blood and sweat to create a masterpiece.

Eiichiro Oda has been producing and working on the series since 1977, taking a few breaks in between because of such health issues. The latest installment notably made its debut on the 26th of March, and not even a week later we have the reports of his bad health. The individual chapters of the shonen manga are compiled into 105 tankobon volumes as of March 2023. Let us hope that Oda returns back to good health and successfully finishes his hit series.
