If we look back to the long-standing history of the Superman adaptation, one certainly cannot forget Richard Donner. 45 years have passed since the American filmmaker adapted this iconic superhero to the big screen. His movies brought the most ideal version of Superman, presenting the key features of this character in the most authentic way.
Moving forward, we have none other than Zack Snyder’s Superman aka Henry Cavill. We all know that the exit of the British star has been the most controversial and heartbreaking news. This version of superman did not receive a proper ending pertaining to the plans the director had for his future. So this is going to be a tough call because people are going to compare the new Superman with our beloved superstar.
Last but not least, the television adaptation of the celebrated character Superman & Lois is currently taking over the hearts of fans. Tyler Hoechlin played the character so well that people even compared him to Henry Cavill. Unlike many other iterations, this franchise explored a very different side of Clark Kent garnering praise from the Arrowverse audiences and new viewers.
Therefore, James Gunn has to compete with three versions of Superman, not only Snyder.

According to Screenrant, Gunn’s Superman movie is DC’s trickiest reboot in year, as the new movie will completely transform the older version of Man of Steel. Or you can say that this would be something like the Spider-Man verse that replaced Spider-Man 4 with the new storyline.
But fans might not need to worry because the creators will keep the origin story intact even if they are bringing new things. This means that the DC Universe will probably get more exciting with the reboot, as Gunn recently hinted at a major DC character’s return from the Suicide Squad franchise.
