The excitement around Hawkins' little monster-hunting gang finally taking down Vecna has been building for years, and fans are on the edge of their seats. But Netflix is not making it easy. This is officially the longest fans have had to wait for a new season of Stranger Things, hoping that this slow burn will eventually lead to the big payoff. With the Super Bowl just around the corner, fans parked their hopes again for a glimpse — only to realize it was clearly foolish for them to do so. Netflix is not going to make it that simple for fans to get what they want.
A new update has once again popped Stranger Things fans' teaser dreams like a balloon, leaving them back to square one.

The Super Bowl, besides being a day packed with thrilling games, is also a prime time for studios to drop teasers for their upcoming hits. But this year, Netflix has decided to sit this one out. According to a report from What’s on Netflix, the streaming giant will not be showing any new footage or updates during the 2025 Super Bowl. So, anyone hoping to get a sneak peek of Stranger Things season 5 during the big game should now just find a pillow to scream into. But, to Netflix’s credit, the streaming giant's decision does make sense.
As a global company, it is not worth shelling out for a live broadcast trailer that would only be seen in North America. It is smarter for them to just drop the teaser online. And Netflix is not the only one. Even major players like Sony Pictures, Amazon MGM Studios, Apple, Lionsgate, and Warner Bros. are sitting this one out. Like Netflix, Warner Bros. also dashed hopes for a teaser of their new DCU offering. But this news is just adding salt to the wound for fans who were already feeling down about the speculated release date for Stranger Things.
While reports have hinted that the show will come out this year, no one expected it to be this far off in 2025.
Is 2025 really the year Stranger Things finally arrives?
Netflix has officially announced a 2025 release window for the eight-episode finale, but the creators of Stranger Things have been pretty candid about the uncertainty surrounding the season 5 timeline. Recently, Netflix's CCO, Bela Bajaria, danced around the question of whether Stranger Things 5 will drop in 2025 or be split into two parts. This lack of a straight answer has only stoked fans’ fears that the show could drag on into 2026 before it is finally over. But that does not mean we will be left completely empty-handed in 2025.

It is already official that Stranger Things will split into two volumes. Fans have even picked up on clues from the sets, with hints that it might be divided right down the middle, i.e., four episodes in each volume. If that is the case, we could get the first volume in 2025, followed by the second volume in 2026. But one thing is clear, Netflix sure is making fans work for that final season with this agonizing wait.
