Nicola Coughlan recently participated in a Q&A session at a special screening of the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton. During the session, a reporter thought it would be a good idea to make a seemingly back-handed remark about Coughlan’s intimate scenes in the show. The audience member called her "very brave" for taking on the role and was met with a cheeky response from the actress. Coughlan quipped, "It is hard because I think women with my body type- women with perfect breasts- we don't get to see ourselves onscreen enough".
While the reporter did not resort to outright body shaming, and Nicola Coughlan has herself advocated for baring it all on-screen throughout the season, reducing her entire performance on the show to her appearance rubbed people the wrong way. However, when she delivered a witty retort, the crowd roared with laughter and applause. And the internet crowd felt the same way.
Fans on X applauded the 37-year-old for sticking up for herself in such a humorous and gutsy manner.
Fans applaud Nicola Coughlan for giving it back to the reporter
This was not the first time Nicola Coughlan has discouraged comments about her body. In a now-deleted 2022 Instagram post, the actress shared a mirror selfie with the caption, “If you have an opinion about me that’s ok”, she added, “but I beg you not to send it to me directly”. Therefore, the Irish actress’ response to the reporter’s comment was not surprising and was warmly received by fans.

Coughlan was also accused of photoshopping her waist on the show. However, she dismissed these speculations, attributing her appearance to the magic of corsets. While it appears that the message Nicola Coughlan is trying to convey is still not sinking in, one can only hope that the narrative around women’s bodies will eventually come to an end.
