“Nice try”- Freya Allan’s Tease of Ciri’s New Look Has Not Helped Fans’ Mounting Disdain For ‘The Witcher'
The once-shining series on Netflix has seen a hefty chunk of its fanbase losing faith in the show and its future. Thanks to the books and games, both of which have been around for ages, Netflix had no trouble grabbing attention for The Witcher. However, by not sticking to the original storyline of the fantasy franchise, The Witcher has taken a noticeable nosedive in ratings, especially in season 3, giving some of the lowest-rated episodes in the show's history. The final nail in the coffin was Henry Cavill’s exit from the show.
Amidst fans giving all their hopes for the next season, Freya Allan told Collider that Ciri’s look has undergone a dramatic makeover in hair, makeup, and costume for the fourth season. “We've just never seen her like this,” Allan teased about the new look. The changes being introduced are meant to blend Ciri’s appearance more closely with a “mixture between the books and the game". Nonetheless, despite these tantalizing new updates, it seems fans’ fading excitement about the Netflix franchise has not changed much.

With The Witcher Season 4 in production and Liam Hemsworth about to make up for Henry Cavill’s absence from the show, the Lauren Hissrich show has been dropping several teases to revive fans' interest. However, despite all the behind-the-scenes peeks and promises of bringing The Witcher closer to its sources, fans are not keen on getting their hopes up again.
Fans took to X to slam Freya Allan and The Witcher franchise, urging them to quit trying to win them over as it is clearly not working.
The Witcher fans are not thrilled about season 4
It was laid out in the third season that Ciri would be undergoing a major transformation, especially now that she is part of The Rats. According to the book, Ciri will also be taking over a tattoo shop and getting inked herself, which will bring about an evolution in Ciri's appearance. While one might think this would spark some curiosity among fans, turns out, it did not, unlike the fans’ reaction to the apparent chemistry between Liam Hemsworth and Anya Chalotra. "Nice try but I am afraid it is too late," said a fan.
Fans have labeled this move as a desperate attempt by the makers to reel in the lost audience for The Witcher.

Given the fans' sentiments towards the show, it is fair to say that it might be a case of too little, too late for The Witcher creators to align with fans’ expectations, which revolve around staying true to the lore. Nonetheless, only when Season 4 is fully unveiled in front of the fandom, can one judge just how far the Netflix franchise has fallen.
