According to J.P. Morgan analyst Doug Anmuth, who cited statistics from Apptopia global downloads, Netflix is expected to gain about four million new customers worldwide in the first quarter, which ended March 31, above corporate forecasts of 2.5 million new subs internationally.
If the reports are right, Netflix’s global member count will surpass 226 million. This makes it the most popular Subscription Video on Demand provider on the planet.
“Based on our discussions with investors, we believe expectations for Q1 net adds are three million before Russia [boycott], or one million – two million post Russia,” Anmuth mentioned in the note on April 7th.
The numbers suggest that Netflix expects to attract roughly one million subscribers in the current second quarter, which ends on June 30, a decrease from last year’s growth of 1.54 million subscribers.
According to Anmuth, the second quarter is generally a gradual time for Netflix. With prospective new customers preferring to travel rather than pay increased subscription rates.

Netflix is also streaming fresh seasons of Elite, Ozark, Stranger Things, and The Umbrella Academy, according to the analyst. In addition, with over 252 million hours streamed in its first week, the second season of Bridgerton set a new record for English language programs viewership.
“Despite a muted first half of the year, we are positive on shares overall, and expect stronger subscriber trajectory in the back half [of the year], and beyond,” Doug wrote in the statement.
