When Geralt finally came face-to-face with Vilgefortz, the mage overpowers him, leaving fans in awe, yet also enraged. The question on everybody’s mind was what Vilgefortz was referring to when he mentioned “holding back” during the fight. Lauren Hissrich addresses this in Making The Witcher: Season 3 on Netflix. She explains that he was talking about being defeated by Cahir back in season 1 when the powerful mage “had to hide his skills.”
This explains a lot for fans who were perturbed by the moment in season 1 when a mere human was able to bring down the most powerful mage in The Witcher. Hissrich goes on to say how in the first episode of season 3, Vilfgefortz is able to demonstrate his prowess against Geralt “for the first time” finally defeating him.
Regardless of all the hype around the White Wolf in the last season, the show’s producer revealed that the main character for this season was not Geralt. It was a different character whose arc is about to see a major shift.
