Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ Has Stubbed Its Toe So Hard That Not Even Henry Cavill Could Heal It
Netflix’s The Witcher has witnessed a spectacular fall from where it stood in the rankings at the end of its first season. The show, which was hailed as one of the best fantasy series ever to be produced by Netflix, has fallen completely off the rails following its season three run. For starters, fans’ love for the show soured when lead actor Henry Cavill had to exit the Witcher world for various reasons such as the studio straying away from the source material .
The disaster that was season three throws across a reasonable point. Even though Henry Cavill stayed on as Geralt for The Witcher even after the third season, the show’s outlook may not fare any better.

Netflix axed the only branch it was sitting upon with its rushed decisions for The Witcher. The streaming giant’s decision to split the show into two parts did not sell among its viewers. Secondly, as Henry Cavill rightly pointed out but was snubbed for, the show strayed away from the source material of books and games. Finally, the decision to introduce many parallel storylines such as Freya Allan’s Ciri’s journey with the Rats also played a part.
Additionally, with the added burden of depicting Henry Cavill’s exit and Liam Hemsworth’s takeover, the makers seemed to have rushed the development. While the finale did have a fight sequence, it was much diminishing as to what fans had in mind. Thus, there was a significant disappointment. Nonetheless, the damage is done.
Season three was the lowest-rated season ever in the history of the show. Moreover, the last two final episodes of the same season now bear the distinction of being the worst-rated episodes in the entirety of The Witcher. As such, the truth is that Henry Cavill is gone from The Witcher. Now all burden falls on Liam Hemsworth, as the next Geralt, to take the show back to the heights from where it started.

Liam Hemsworth already has a glimpse of the task and ground that he has to cover after the season three debacle. As viewership numbers drop incessantly, Hemsworth has leaps and bounds to go and fix the damage. Although the actor has shown his admiration for Henry Cavill, simply replicating him will not fix the problem. Rather, it is something totally out of Hemsworth’s hands, or sword for that matter.
The Witcher needs an overhaul with its overall writing. The show needs to close its loose ends and cut off many unnecessary subplots. Additionally, the makers need to be wary of changing the source beyond recognition. Netflix has promised a better lore-accurate season four of the show. The production of which is to start soon. Yet, there does not appear to be much of a lesson learned on Netflix’s part.
