Ryan Reynolds’ Red Notice was the fifth-most-viewed movie on Netflix when it was released in 2021. The film also starred Tinseltown’s finest actors, like Gal Gadot and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The film was unfavorably panned by reviewers, yet it was adored by fans due to its magnificent ensemble. Fans were overjoyed when it was announced in 2022 that there would be a Red Notice 2 sequel to the action-comedy flick. However, a sad update on the sequel has made its way out of the shadows.

In a recent interview, Netflix’s Head of films discussed the future of the Ryan Reynolds starrer as well as some disappointing news.

After its superhit streak on Netflix, Red Notice was further extended for two sequels. However, Netflix’s head of films, Scott Stuber, disclosed to Collider’s Editor-in-Chief, Steve Weintraub, that the service was currently only concentrating on one sequel and that the script’s final version was nearing completion and would be ready “relatively” soon. The head also appeared to evade queries about Red Notice 3, putting a cloud of worry over the third installment.

Scott Stuber went on to say that it was advantageous for the streaming service to do a good job with the film, given the praise the first one received when it was released in 2021. Notably, Weintraub had met with Red Notice creators Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia more than a year ago when they revealed that they had scripts for both sequels ready.

During a TUDUM fan event, the actress spoke with Collider about the film’s planned sequel. She confirmed that the film was “definitely still happening” and that she had seen the scripts. Further, the entire production was “talking about it,” implying that filming would begin soon. She also expressed her excitement to be a part of such an extraordinary cast. However, when it came to sequels in general, a previous interview with Ryan Reynolds portrayed a different image.

Reynolds responded to a question posed by his Deadpool 2 co-star Rob Delaney while anchoring the four-day Just for Laughs comedy festival at London’s O2 venue. The question was whether he intended to make a sequel to his film, Free Guy. The actor said, “I’d love to,” but why did everything have to be “a f**king sequel?” Contrary to what his Deadpool franchise might prove, maybe Reynolds likes it one and done with his films.
