Netflix Waves Goodbye to a Beloved Trilogy as Rumors About Its Fourth Installment Grow
The list of the next batch of shows and movies that are leaving Netflix is out. The streaming giant has served as a home to many iconic films and shows, apart from its own lineup of original productions. Every month, while adding new projects to its library, the streamer also says goodbye to others. This time around, it is an iconic trilogy that collectively earned around a billion at the box office.
This science fiction comedy franchise is leaving Netflix at a time when the buzz for its fourth installment is at its peak, with popular names attached to it.

Many shows and movies on Netflix have been added, taken off, and then added and taken off again- this cycle seems to be on repeat. One such example is the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which followed a similar pattern. Now, the Back to the Future trilogy is being shown the door once again, after being added just over a month ago, as per Teen Vogue. The entire trilogy will exit the platform in one swoop on September 30 this year, to make way for new arrivals.
With its addition to Netflix, the Back to the Future trilogy found a new audience among younger viewers who had likely never seen the films before. In August, the franchise also cracked the top 50 Netflix movies with the highest Tomatometer scores, landing in the 41st spot. Given the timeless appeal of the franchise, there is a lot of speculation about a potential fourth installment, and fans seem to have found their star for it as well.
A Marvel star is the hottest name being tossed around for Back to the Future 4, and there has also been a trailer making the rounds.

Last December, a 78-second trailer for Back to the Future 4 started doing the rounds on social media. It starred Spider-Man sensation Tom Holland and even claimed a 2024 release date. The trailer showed current-day Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox as Doctor Emmett Brown and Marty McFly, reliving their time-traveling hijinks from the first three movies. It even ended with Fox delivering Lloyd's famous line, "Time travel? Great Scott".
The supposed trailer, however, was soon exposed as a hoax. The footage of present-day Christopher Lloyd was lifted from a promo video for 2015's LEGO Dimensions video game, and the clip of Holland with Fox was taken from Spider-Man: Far From Home. Even though the trailer was fake, fans are still dreaming of seeing Holland in Back to the Future 4.
