Fans bid farewell to the Belmont clan and their epic battle against Dracula and his minions more than two years ago. However, Netflix hasn’t forgotten about its honored animated series, Castlevania, which concluded with its fourth and final season in 2021. The streaming giant recently unveiled a spin-off series called Castlevania: Nocturne as part of its Tudum lineup. Today, a sneak peek, along with a release date for the dark side of the vampire hunters, emerged.

Castlevania: Nocturne is set to continue the storyline of Castlevania. This new season will delve into the mysterious and shadowy aspects of the Belmont family as well as unravel the rich history and mythology of the Castlevania world. The production of this show is in the hands of Powerhouse Animation from the original seasons.

The show will be led by Richter Belmont, a descendant of heroes Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades from the original. He is a vampire hunter and has played a major role in two highly acclaimed Castlevania video games. Richter won’t face the forces of darkness on his own, as he will have the company of Maria Renard. She is one who possesses the power to communicate with animals and perform magic.

Netflix Tudum confirms that Castlevania: Nocturne will drop its first season on the 28th of September, 2023. And fans have palpable expectations because they loved the theme of the original series. Moreover, Netflix’s own The Witcher theme also focuses on the monster-hunting theme but is currently facing a viewership drop in its third season due to a variety of reasons.

Netflix is heading into a dreaded territory with its ambitious plans to produce live-action adaptations and spin-offs based on beloved franchises: One Piece (live-action), Lazarus, and Castlevania. However, the question remains if Netflix will struggle to live up to its own ambitious goals. It has a bit of a roller-coaster track record when it comes to live-action adaptations and anime spin-offs. The streaming giant took a swing at Death Note, one of the most beloved anime series ever back in 2017, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark and received some negative reviews and fan backlash.

On the other side, Netflix has managed to impress with their live-action take on Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning and Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, both of which premiered in Japanese theaters while also being available on Netflix. Recently they gave it a shot with Cowboy Bebop as a live-action series but unfortunately, it was canceled after just one season due to low viewership and poor ratings. Thus, a lot is riding on fan reactions to One Piece, the trailer of which dropped recently.
