Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ Season 4 Experiences Unforeseen Delay in Schedule Without Henry Cavill
In December 2019, Netflix debuted its arguable competitor to HBO’s The Game of Thrones as it launched Henry Cavill as the titular lead in The Witcher. Over the years, the fantasy show went through many transformations and faced a slew of creative decisions that led to a debatable downfall ending with the ex-Superman actor leaving the show. Now after the twin Hollywood strikes, its fourth season, which should have at the very least, started filming, received another disappointing update.
Burdened with the task of uplifting its image, the Netflix show’s latest season hardly appears to be out of trouble.

In 2023, Netflix divided season three of The Witcher into two parts and quite literally lost a major chunk of its fandom. As ratings slipped to record lows, all hopes lay adorned on a possible turning of the tides with its season four. However, as per Redanian Intelligence, filming of the fantasy show received pushback from the earlier March 2024 to a now unclear and probable April 2024 date.
The delays coupled with the months-long shooting time may either take the show for a late 2024 release as a surprise or a very likely early release 2025 window. Additionally, the reports of delays do not come attached with any fixed date, even though rumors pitched the streaming giant aiming for an October wrap. Season 4 of The Witcher will also mark the first season of the show, since its inception, to debut without Henry Cavill, raising further apprehensions regarding its performance.
Regardless, a few narrative challenges indeed lie for the writers as a shift in lead appears likely.

Season three of The Witcher spent its first part focusing on the relations between Freya Allan’s Ciri and Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer. Despite splitting up the pair in the second part, the show may have them lined up to lead the narrative as Liam Hemsworth gears to take up the mantle and sword left behind by Henry Cavill. With the actresses’ stature pitching them as the two most powerful women in the show, they may play a key part.
In a continent ravaged by war, Ciri will navigate the new ways of her life after joining the misfit group of The Rats. Meanwhile, Yennefer will come face to face with her legacy as the strongest magic wielder and perhaps explain the changed looks of Geralt. Either way, winning back the audience’s faith stands as a priority for The Witcher season four.
