It has been over a year since the political thriller, The Diplomat, graced the screens with its first season. In no time, the show became the new Netflix favorite of U.S. ambassadors and landed comfortably in the number one spot of trending shows on the streaming giant, leading many fans to desperately wait for a sequel. Unlike many other popular Netflix originals that make fans wait forever for their installments, it seems, that The Diplomat fans are going to have a relatively short wait between seasons.

The Diplomat recently confirmed a release date, along with first-look images of the lead, Keri Russell.

The Diplomat has dropped two first-look photos of Keri Russell, who is back in action as Kate Wyler. The pictures featured Russell as the distressed foreign service officer. While the reasons behind her distress can be pieced together from the jaw-dropping cliffhanger of the first season, fans will soon get to dive into the political drama for themselves in just over two months. The Diplomat season 2 will arrive on the small screens on October 31, 2024.

The first and second seasons have certainly stuck to the 1.5-year gap between seasons, a rarity in the streaming world these days. With a critical rating of 83%, The Diplomat, despite its focus on politics, has never really drawn any significant controversy. However, even after earning praise from legends, the show did garner some mixed reviews following a few weeks of its release, especially because of its alleged portrayal of democracy as a barrier to virtue and good policy.

Debora Cahn recently chatted with Netflix’s Tudum about what is in store for The Diplomat season 2. She revealed that the new season will change everything viewers thought they knew about the Wylers and everything they think they know about each other. Cahn also hinted at some brewing tension between the Vice President and Kate, as the former suspects, the officer is gunning for her job.

Kate’s plate is certainly overflowing for season 2. She has to not only prove that the British warship attack was the work of the British Prime Minister but also cope with the loss of her colleagues and her almost-ex-husband in the explosion. That said, looks like it is time for another round of this sharp, screwball drama.
