Why did Netflix remove the LGBTQ+ tag?

It is no surprise that the true crime genre dramas and films have a huge fan following worldwide. Jeffrey Dahmer is no exception. The true crime drama follows the life of the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer who murdered and sexually assaulted 17 boys and men. Initially, the series was under the LGBTQ+ label, but the streamer soon removed the drama from the category. In an attempt to differentiate the series, Ryan Murphy took a distinct approach by focusing on the lives of the victims rather than glorifying Jeffrey. However, the series faced backlash due to its categorization under the LGBTQ+ label since Dahmer and most of his victims were queer in nature.

Moreover, the show also received repercussions from the victims’ families. According to the member of the victimized families, the series reignited their trauma. The series also became subject to backlash as Netflix failed to take the victimized families into consideration. Rita Isbell, the sister of a Jeffrey Dahmer victim, spoke about the issue. Rita revealed, “I was never contacted about the show. I feel like Netflix should’ve asked if we mind or how we felt about making it. They didn’t ask me anything. They just did it”. Interestingly, Netflix also recreated Isbell’s powerful statement in court at the 1992 sentencing.

Fans upset with the categorization of Dahmer Netflix under LGBTQ+
