Hollywood fans are no less than hawk-eyed detectives, tracking every casting move to fuel their fandom fantasies. But sometimes, stars can get a little too extra, making it hard to ignore the obvious. Like when veteran actors pair up with co-stars young enough to be their protégés. The latest culprit is Netflix’s Lonely Planet, where the age gaps are bigger than the plot twists. Fans are raising an eyebrow, as they notice an eerie coincidence, wondering if it is romance or just a midlife crisis.

A fan took to X to quote a Netflix update on an upcoming movie, observing a trend of Big Little Lies actresses pairing up with co-stars decades younger. The post humorously called on Reese Witherspoon to follow suit in her next film and charm the audience with another sizzling romance. The majority concurred, calling out the age gap phenomenon. While many pointed out this is nothing new, the caption left many wondering if Hollywood's May-December romances are becoming a tired trope.

The trend shows no signs of slowing down, as actresses from the 2017 black comedy-drama continue pairing with younger co-stars. As Vanity Fair reported, Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is set to star in another similar romance, entitled Baby Girl. Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon too has already done this before on Home Again, making her upcoming film Lonely Planet with Liam Hemsworth seem like a cup of tea.

In the process, the eagle-eyed fans took a satirical jab at the other cast of Big Little Lies dramedy.

Neitizens were soon to realise how the May-December romances are taking over Hollywood

Given the fast-gaining traction of the troupe, fans are betting their last dollar on Reese Witherspoon's next romance being with Noah Centineo. Because why not? Meanwhile, some jokesters are calling for the one and only Meryl Streep, 75 and aging like a fine wine, to get in on the action and join her former co-stars.

A few others could not get enough of "fun" loving Anne Hathaway and her role in the recent blockbuster, The Idea of You, with Nicholas Galitzine.
