Netflix’s The Witcher Season 5, the show’s final installment, started filming in Cape Town, South Africa, according to Redanian Intelligence. This marked a stark shift from the series’ traditional UK-based production hubs. The Cape Town sets, originally built for the uncertain spin-off The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale, were repurposed for the main series. Reports hinted the spin-off might be canceled or released as a special episode.
Filming is set to move to London in March, where Liam Hemsworth will join the cast as Geralt. Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, was already on location in Cape Town. The final season is expected to adapt storylines from Sapkowski’s novels The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake, promising a climactic end to Geralt’s saga.
A shadowy game character storms into The Witcher’s fourth season, blurring the lines between novels and video games.
The Witcher's game exclusive character Roderick de Wett joins the fray
Season 4 of The Witcher introduced Roderick de Wett, the first game-exclusive character in the Netflix series. A loathsome Nilfgaardian Count and member of the Order of the Flaming Rose, Roderick originated in CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher video game. Actor Jack Myers portrayed the arrogant noble, known for his love of dice poker. While Roderick does not appear in Sapkowski’s books, the show hinted at a potential link to Joachim de Wett, a book character, suggesting a familial connection.

This bold move blended game lore with literary inspiration, sparking debates among fans about creative liberties. As the cameras captured Cape Town’s stark landscapes and Roderick de Wett’s schemes unfolded, the series’ final chapter inched closer to its destiny. Whether these bold choices would cement The Witcher’s legacy or fracture its fandom, one thing was clear: the continent’s last hunt would leave no blade unbloodied.
