Over the years, Netflix has really tried to break free from the shackles of being a mere streaming service as it went above and beyond to churn out spectacular original content in every genre. While its documentaries and biography-style content have been a hit maker since day one, it has struggled in its attempt to bring back sitcoms.

While Netflix is most definitely the place where every dog sees its day, this did not stand true for its very own sitcom, That 90s Show.

A spinoff of That 70s and 80s show, That 90s Show aired on Netflix at the beginning of 2023 and since then has dropped multiple parts, however the season count stands at two. Despite the ample star power and actors from the preceding hit variations also starring in the series, it failed to break into Netflix's trend. This lack of buzz might have been attributed to the show's cancelation, which was confirmed by Kurtwood Smith on his Instagram.

For most popular Netflix originals, Season 5 is usually the limit. However, the streamer has pulled the plug on the sitcom a bit early and it has definitely surprised fans. Being an OTT Mogul in this day and age is no easy business, especially if you are constantly in the race to win big with your originals while also trying to secure the latest hotcakes from the box office. However, by spending a few thousand dollars per house to keep spoilers sealed and raining millions on the production budget, Netflix is managing to get through.

While the streamer has done a spectacular job and created a new standard for streamers, as it awaits the release of Stranger Things Season 5 and Squid Game Season 2, both shows that garnered global attention and are built on a heap of cash, Netflix's nervousness is peaking through. And with the slashing of That 90s Show, it has made clear that it will not be entertaining any content that does not bring its money or acclaim back.
