Netflix Greenlights a Documentary Around the Infamous $63 Million Transfer of Luis Figo to Real Madrid

Louis Figo gets a documentary about his transfer to Real Madrid
Netflix announced on August 18th that it would release a documentary 22 years after the famous incident that delves into Luis Figo’s historic and contentious move from Barcelona to Real Madrid. The entire narrative of Figo’s move is fascinating, and witnessing a documentary in which key participants in the process speak should be intriguing. The documentary is set to debut on August 25th, and both presidents at the time, Florentino Perez and Joan Gaspart, as well as Figo himself, are anticipated to comment.
Netflix España issued the following statement on Twitter:
“Luís Figo, Florentino Pérez, José Veiga, Joan Gaspart, Paulo Futre… 22 years later, the protagonists speak for the first time about the most controversial transfer in the history of football. The documentary #ElCasoFigoElFichajeDelSiglo arrives on August 25.”

A brief history of the controversial deal
Figo is one of the rare football players to have played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain. His controversial move from Barcelona to fierce rivals Real Madrid in 2000 set a world record value of $63 Million.

The agreement was very contested and prompted outrage in Catalonia. Figo moved to Barcelona from Sporting Clube de Portugal, where he made his senior professional debut in 1995. He enjoyed five years of remarkable success at Camp Nou before heading for the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2000.
