In the world of cinematic achievements, there has been nothing quite like bagging an Oscar award. While every filmmaker and studio would love for their hard work to be honored with the award, it takes a little longer for some. That has been the case for Netflix recently. Although the streamer has been nominated time and time again, they have not managed to take home their prize.

Now, with them having Maestro in the running, fans are hoping that could change. However, it seems rather unlikely as a handful of iconic films are also up for consideration.

For the last 5 years, Netflix has been trying its hardest to land the Academy Award for Best Picture. While the award has always been a tiny bit out of reach, it looks like this year is no different. Although the film, Maestro, has received 7 nominations, there is no doubt that Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer will be heading home with that win. After all, the cast of the biographical drama has been sweeping every award show recently.

Bradley Cooper’s film might have captivated the music aficionados. However, it has not been doing too well in the award circuit. While the movie may not be getting the recognition that it deserved, it still ended up being one of the actor’s best performances. After all, he not only changed his entire look for the role of Leonard Bernstein, but he also practiced learning how to conduct an orchestra for only 6 minutes of screen time.

Netflix might not have gotten lucky at the Oscars this time around. However, it would not be the first time that the streamer was on the verge of success.

Netflix films that almost won an Oscar

While initially they had only been adding other movies and shows to their library, they soon decided to try their hand at creating their films. As with everything, their process has had some ups and downs. However, the streaming giant managed to perfect their ideas for 2 films, The Power of the Dog and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Both films made history for Netflix with nominations in various categories, such as Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and more. However, only Jane Campion, the director of the Benedict Cumberbatch film, ended up winning the Best Director award in 2022.
