The Witcher has for the longest time, tried to expand itself from being a mere series adapted by the iconic books of Andrzej Sapkowski. This is evident in the way the show has plans to release more than just a few seasons despite the exit of what fans deemed the show's pride and joy. However, things truly reached the next level when the makers started working on the spinoff centered around The Rats until it all came crashing down.

At a time when even top acclaimed shows are having a hard time getting back on track, the spinoff of The Witcher has naturally dealt with the backlog. But just how giant this backlog was has only become apparent now.

Given that Andrzej Sapkowski's masterfully designed continent is gospel for those who have come across it, there is no denying the instinct to produce more content revolving around it. However, as the main series, The Witcher, itself is at the helm of major skepticism, there is more guarantee than not that The Rats: A Witcher Tale may not have had the smoothest landing. Therefore, after slashing off several episodes and wrapping filming early, sources of Redanian Intelligence have revealed that The Rats will be released as a special episode.

Given how the makers hyped up the project, for it to be reduced to a mere special episode, is truly surprising. However, the director herself, Mairzee Almas, has listed The Rats: A Witcher Tale as a special episode on her LinkedIn profile. Earlier this year, the Netflix series garnered divided reactions as reports of it being cut down surfaced. However, the makers not liking the series as a whole itself was not known.

While The Rats may not be released as the series per the plan, there is no doubt that the group itself will remain a pivotal part in the upcoming storyline.

Given that it is pretty much confirmed that the once spinoff series of The Witcher, The Rats, will be released as a special episode curtsy of the lesson of their previous spinoff, The Witcher: Blood Origin among other reasons. But despite a huge chunk of the series being slashed, The Rats: A Witcher Tale still remains one part of the epicenter of the upcoming storyline thanks to Ciri.

As the first look of Ciri surfaced and left fans in awe for the upcoming season, it left no doubt that Ciri will be switching over to the dark side which of course means her joining The Rats. This will lead to the show unleashing arguably the darkest arc of The Witcher books. Therefore, spinoff or not, The Rats: A Witcher Tale will remain important in The Witcher.
