Two Tone, Steven Knight’s new work, tells the tale of an extended family and four young people who were lured into the Coventry and Birmingham music scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Knight stated the series’ music will be “sensational,” uniting black, white, and Asian teens at the time. It will begin production at Knight’s new Birmingham studios later this year.

Peaky Blinders, his immensely successful BBC drama, is also set in the same city. According to Karen Wilson of producers Kudos, this new six-part series on BBC One will be set in the West Midlands during a moment of “real cultural and historical progression.”

The Specials, The Selecter, The Beat, and Madness were among the bands that emerged from the music scene. They mixed traditional Jamaican ska music with punk and went on to secure their position in popular culture.
