Among Netflix’s recent works, the One Piece live-action adaptation and the horror comedy series Wednesday are considered some of the best projects to be delivered by the OTT mogul. Moreover, both shows were based on written works that were later turned into highly-praised series. Besides this similarity, both the series from the streaming giant emerged as favorites among their young audiences and topped the charts upon their release.

Regardless of their similarities, fans of both shows did not expect Netflix to draw up a comparison between the two. Especially not for an unexpected reason that did not sit well with fans at all!

Recently, Netflix posted a side-by-side comparison of some characters from the two shows on their Instagram page. On one side displayed the happy-go-lucky Monkey D. Luffy with a serious-looking Nami from One Piece. Whereas the other showed the ever-cheerful Enid Sinclair from Wednesday with the formidable-looking Wednesday Addams played by Jenna Ortega. According to Netflix, Luffy and Nami’s friendship was a replica of Enid & Wednesday’s.

Through the image, they not only suggested that those characters were similar, but the caption even jokingly mentioned that these were both the “same photo.” In a way, some behaviors of the four characters could be deemed similar on the surface. However, for One Piece fans who worship these characters, the truth could have not been further away from this post.

Evidently, the comparison baffled fans. One of the top comments asked Netflix to never “disrespect One Piece like that again.” According to another user, “Luffy would hate the Netflix executives” for making this post. Meanwhile, one user felt that Wednesday Addams was “the most boring character ever” unlike Nami. The majority agreed that they need to stop making “cringy” posts by using One Piece. Some also said “nami is not similar to Wednesday,” taking a strong stance on both characters.

Now that One Piece has surpassed Wednesday and Stranger Things in ratings, the post was bound to divide the internet with such a controversial stance. Whether it was a marketing ploy or an attempt to make a meme, the post did not sit well with either show’s fanbase. So, maybe the OTT mogul should refrain from drawing parallels between their most-loved shows to avoid the wrath of fans in the future.
