Netflix CEO Has an Enticing ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Prediction, Despite No Release Updates Yet

Did Hyde kill everyone in the police van? Will he come back? Can Wednesday take down the monster or will she end up becoming its new master? These questions have been on the minds of fans of Netflix’s Wednesday since November 2022. Season 1 might have tied up a lot of loose ends with a neat little bow, but it still left plenty dangling. Fortunately, the show is returning this year, promising to deliver all the answers we have been waiting for in the second season. And Netflix is already making some big promises about what is coming.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos recently told Wednesday fans that the long wait for Season 2 will definitely pay off. During Netflix's Fourth Quarter 2024 Earnings Interview, he confidently predicted that when Season 2 drops, all the social media platforms will "get flooded with tributes". And he might be right, especially since the marketing machine is already revving up for the show, even before a release date announcement.

Last year, Netflix kicked off the marketing campaign for Wednesday Season 2 at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. They created a Wednesday-themed float that took over the streets of Manhattan, with crowds watching it roll by. And once the official release date gets announced, you can bet the marketing will go further into full gear, especially once the trailer hits. This kind of hype was a big factor in why Wednesday Season 1 took off the way it did.
Of course, Wednesday had the built-in advantage of being part of The Addams Family legacy, but a huge part of its success also came from the viral social media marketing that got everyone talking.
Can Wednesday Season 2 replicate the viral success of the first season?
From the very start, Wednesday was a huge win for Netflix. The series accumulated 341.23 million hours of watch time in its first week itself, setting a new record for a show in a week. It also left behind many flagship shows, including Stranger Things. This success was only boosted by clever marketing that played to Wednesday Addams' sardonic charm and really clicked with younger audiences on social media.

Thanks to the show’s growing popularity and Jenna Ortega’s rising star power, excitement for Wednesday Season 2 is also through the roof. And it is looking like the follow-up will not have much trouble living up to the first season’s success. But as with everything, only time will tell how it all plays out, especially since we do not know how much of the first season’s success was driven by viral moments and how many of those viewers will stick around for the second season.
